The Melbourne Cricket Club is seeking to fill the General Manager, Commercial Operations and Partnerships position.  This senior leadership position is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of the Commercial function and is the primary Executive liaison for key MCC partnerships and hirers. 


Reporting to the CEO, the role has a strong leadership and people focus. It also forms part of the MCC Executive Leadership team, with budgetary responsibilities across multiple disciplines.


This position has responsibility for the following functions:


  • Securing all major content and events for the MCG
  • Stakeholder engagement, strategy and delivery
  • Marketing and Brand
  • Communications/PR/Media
  • Sales and revenue generation (including corporate hospitality and corporate suites)
  • Commercial partnerships, sponsorship, suppliers, advertising and merchandising
  • Manage the Club’s hospitality partner to ensure the delivery of exceptional hospitality to all members and patrons


Required to negotiate significant commercial contracts with partners and suppliers, the ability to build and maintain positive and enduring relationships, based on trust and respect is key to success in this position.   


To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrate the following:


  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications (e.g. Business/Marketing/Commerce)
  • Proven capability at a senior executive level, leading and managing a significant commercial portfolio including Sales, Marketing, Communications, PR, Media and Customer Engagement
  • Exemplary stakeholder management skills
  • Previous revenue generation and Sales & Marketing experience, including achievement of demonstrable growth (customer engagement and revenue) in previous roles
  • Outstanding leadership capabilities, including the ability to build, develop and maintain a highly engaged and collaborative team
  • Considerable experience negotiating commercial contracts of significant value
  • Prior exposure and experience dealing with Committees and Board/s
  • High energy, enthusiasm and drive, inspiring others to achieve
  • A demonstrated drive and genuine commitment to customer service and engagement
  • Approachability, respect and a desire to work in an organisation with a strong sense of team 
  • Previous exposure to venues and clubs or the entertainment sector is preferred, but not essential


Given the nature of the organisation, there is a requirement to work on particular event days and as such, availability to work on weekends, public holidays and after business hours, is a requirement.
