The Melbourne Cricket Club manages Melbourne’s iconic Albert Cricket Ground, and Beaumaris Secondary Collage. As part of the Facilities department, the Arenas team is responsible for ensuring that all playing surfaces managed by the MCC are operationally ready for each event held.

A great opportunity has arisen for two qualified Turf Tradespersons to join the Facilities department’s arenas team. This role reports to the Outside Venue Supervisors and is responsible for supporting the operational plans through applying trade level turf skills. The focus of the role is to support the Albert Ground and Beaumaris Secondary College however may be directed to work at the MCG arena and other MCC managed venues to ensure that they are ready as required by the Club’s commitment to customers.

 

To be successful, you will need to be multi-dimensional in terms of your turf skills, with the ability to adjust from cricket season to AFL season and display the same level of competence in both areas. In addition, you will be passionate about delivering the best possible playing surface.

 

The successful applicant will have:

  • Completed at a minimum Certificate III in Turf Management
  • Experience preparing Premier Cricket wickets or equivalent standard
  • Relevant experience in the application of turf management skills and practices for related turf surfaces.
  • Relevant mathematical and mechanical skills (in respect of turf trade calculations and mechanical plant operation)
  • Other relevant role related qualifications such as chemical applications certificate/and a current and valid driver’s licence
  • Competent and safe use of machinery
  • Previous experience assisting in the organisation and implementation of designated works programs to achieve continual turf management improvements
  • Undertaken tasks in accordance with the works program
  • Experience with early identification of turf problems and recommended solutions
  • The ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, including manual handling
  • The ability to work unsupervised and as a part of a team
  • The flexibility and motivation to work the necessary hours to accommodate additional overtime for seasonal demands of working at the MCC venues
  • Good customer service

The hours are 40 hour per week roster plus seasonal overtime.

 

This role requires you to have a current valid Working with Children Check.
